Speed of Editing

In a film each scene could last a few seconds or it could be a few minutes, but it all depends on the pace of the film and moving along the action, the speed of editing will determine the mood of the film, for example the shots could be quick and this builds suspension. or if it is a relaxed scene the shots would last longer.

One film does not have any edits, this film is called "Russian Ark" this was filmed in one take using a steadicam and a digital camera, this required a lot of organization and timing.
Scenes at the start of a film should be long enough for us to understand what is happening within the film and to set out the story.

A fast paced film is "The Bourne Supremacy", this is a fast paced action film with a lot of editing.
